St. Patty's Day Wreath

I do not have a single piece of St. Patrick's Day decor in my home.  So this year I decided I needed to at least do a wreath.  And I got a brilliant idea, but then I couldn't find what I needed so I gave up.  Then a few days ago I got another idea and this one was easy to get everything I needed and I love it.  So now less than a week before St. Patrick's day I finally have a wreath.

So here's what you need to make this wreath:
A wreath you can wrap and stick pins into. (I used the same wreath I used in this project.)
1/8 yd of 4 pieces of green fabric
1 yd heavy iron on interfacing (or wonder under)
freezer paper
white ball headed pins
9ish yards of 3 inch ribbon to wrap the wreath with
1 yr ribbon for bow.

Now what to do.  ( I am sorry I don't have step by step photo's but it is fairly simple.)
First wrap you wreath with your ribbon.

Now make your shamrocks.  To do this I found a 3 leaf clip art and a 4 leaf clip art clover and printed them off in 2 different sizes.  My large was slightly bigger than 3 inches and my small was about 1 1/2 inches.
Trace an assortment of your shamrocks onto freezer paper.  You will need about 15 from each piece of fabric. Trace onto a size that will fit your fabric
Iron your interfacing onto the wrong side of your fabric and then iron your freezer paper to the right side of your fabric. Then cut all of them out.
Now just piece a large one and a small one together and stick one of you white pins through them into the wreath.
Fill up your wreath.
Now for the finishing touch, a bow.

I just looped the bow around until I had 6 large loops.  I didn't tie it or sew it or anything fancy like that.  I simple grabbed a shamrock pair and stuck it in the middle to finish it off and hold it together.
And the wreath is done.  Simple and cute. And it cost me less then $10.

 

"LOVE" t-shirt

So Valentines is right around the corner and my girls are excited.  They love the pink and the hearts and the cupcakes.  But who can blame them? So I am making them matching LOVE t-shirts.  And to make it even better I am using polka-dots, hearts and glitter.  What more could a little girl want?  Oh I know, how about 3 shades of pink?  I know it sounds overwhelming, but I am kinda a simple gal myself so it's perfectly perfect. At least I think so.  What do you think?

 So if you want to make a little girls dream valentines day shirt without going over the tops here's what to do.
First you will need a pink shirt from off the clearance rack :) Sewable heat bond, fabric, glitter bond and fabric glitter and freezer paper. (Also sewing machine, thread, iron and letters to trace)

 Start by tracing your "L V E" backwards onto the paper side of the heat bond.  Iron that onto the wrong side of your fabric. (I have two sets traced because I am making more than one, you only need to trace it once)

 Cut out your letters and pull off the white papery part and place them on your shirt and find where you want them.  make sure you leave a space for your heart "o".  Once you have them where you want them iron them on again. (high dry heat for about 8 sec)

 Now sew around them with a cute applique stitch on your machine.  or if your super woman do it by hand.  The first stitch I chose I hated so I had to undo it and start again with a new stitch.  It was much better.

 Now take your freezer paper and cut out a heart.  Now iron that onto your shirt (again about 8 sec.)
Place something inside your shirt where you are going to be adding the glitter so we don't "bond" the front and back of the shirt together. Now take your glitter bond and the little "make up" applicator it comes with.

 Get a good dollop of band onto the tip of the applicator.

 Now spread that inside your heart.

Pour glitter all over it. Then wait. 

 After 2 hours you can begin to remove your glitter.  I shook it onto a piece of paper so I could then funnel it back into my glitter container. And pull your freezer paper off.  Voila!  Now you have a super cute shirt. (make sure to wait 72 hrs before washing and wash it inside out as well.)

Dr Suess Baby Shower {onesies}

Ok here is my last Dr. Suess baby shower post.  So as I mentioned before at the shower I hung up Dr. Suess burp cloths and bibs on red and blue boa's for display and gift to baby.  I made the bibs and burp cloths using Robert Kauffmans Dr. Suess material.  I did one other thing with the material as well.  I made onesie's.  But I left them in the dryer at home so they didn't get put on display.  Lucky for you that means I got pictures of them here at home.  So here they are. I made a 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 month size so they baby will have one to wear for the first year of her life:)

 Of course I had to add a little girly flair to the onesies as well...

 So there they are.  I think they are pretty cute.

So let me do a quick overview of all the Dr. Suess baby shower post's quickly for your connivance.
First is the party favors.  Just so you know I ended up doing turquoise rock candy, white sixlets and red swedish fish then I put either a red or blue pixie stick on the outside.  I also put a little Dr. Suess sticker on each jar.

Second was the quote blocks that worked great for decor and game prizes.

Next was the advice book.

Then the Food label cards.

And lastly my sad party decorations post.

So there you go.  I hope you have enjoyed this half as much as I have.  Now to Valentines and my eldest monkeys 6th birthday.  Life never does slow down.

Dr Suess Party Decorations

Good news I found my camera cord in the bottom of the toy bucket.  So I was going to do a different post today but the pictures turned out terrible so I want to re-take them.  So instead I will do this one.  As I mentioned in a post before I forgot to bring my camera to the baby shower.  It really turned out looking cute.  First I will try and paint what it looked like with words then I will show you some second hand decorations:)
Here is my best wordy explanation of what we did. I had the tables set before people got there.  I had started with white table cloths.  Then I used red and turquoise square plates alternating each spot.  I also had red and turquoise napkins that alternated, so it was turquoise plate with red napkin etc.  Then everyone had yellow plastic wear.  Fun bright Dr. Suess colors.  Then I had little glass vases with Dr. Suess "tree's" in them and set those on the tables.  I also borrowed a bunch of Dr. Suess plush animals from a teacher friend and had those set midway between the vases.  And lastly I had little 2 inch squares (stolen from a matching game) of all sorts of Dr. Suess Book Characters sprinkled on the table.  Oh it was cute and fun! Then we had a table set up for presents and in the center of that was a really good Dr. Suess Diaper cake made by baby's grandma.  Then on another side we had a display that had the party favors stacked up and the advice book I made for people to write in and the wooden Dr. Suess quotes I made and another Diaper cake made by the other grandma that was a Horton Hears a Who theme and One Fish Two Fish stacking blocks.  Oh it was cute display!  Then of course there were streamers up high and I made tissue paper pom pom balls and had them hanging up.  And On the wall I had some red and blue boas hanging and made them into clothes lines in which I hung some Dr. Suess bibs and burp clothes.  I wish oh how I wish I hadn't forgotten my camera.  We also did the shower in a club house which was nice because there were no "homey" decorations to take away from the Dr. Suess decor.
But I did have left over decorations and my baby monkey just had her first birthday.  So I simplified my life and re-used some of the decorations. Lucky for you I do have pictures of that.

 And these are the cupcakes I made for my monkeys birthday.  We had the Thing 1 cupcakes at the shower but I mixed it up and little and did Thing 1 cupcakes and Horton Hears a Who cupcakes.

Note: The cotton candy melts somewhat quickly on the frosting so don't put it on until the last minute :)

So sorry for the long wordy post. Maybe someday I wont be so crazy but I wouldn't count on it if I were you. 
PS. the matching game and the one fish two fish stacking blocks were bought from Suessland.

Dr. Suess Baby Shower {Food Labels}

So the baby shower was last week and it turned out great!  I believe my sister-in-law was very happy with it.  Except for one thing, I am a basket case.  You see I forgot my camera, but that's not even the bad part.  The bad part is I had my camera in my purse, so forgetting my camera meant I forgot my purse.  So please don't tell anyone that I drove over 50 miles last week without my drivers license.  Anyways that also means I don't have pictures of everything finished and put together.  But I still have a few pieces of the shower I can show you.  So here we go.
So the mother of the mom was in charge of the food and she had seen the idea of naming your food cute Dr. Suess things.  I believe she got the idea from here.  So she asked me if I would make up cute little labels to go with the food of what they are and this is what I came up with.

 Aren't those soo cute.  I am so happy with them I have to show you each one close up.

 For this one I have never read Hooray for Diffendoofer Day so I am not sure if this image is actually from the book but it's what came up when I googled it so I ran with it.

 So here is how I made them.  I found the images I wanted to use and opened them in paint.  Then I made them the size I wanted them and added the words.  Then I printed them off.  To get them to stand up I just cut extra pieces of card stock the were about 2 inches thick and just a little bit shorter than the width of the card.  I folded that in half then glued it on like so.

 Since the baby was a girl I wanted to add a little extra girly flair.  That's why I added the little rosettes on the side. To do so I used tissue paper and cut it about 1 1/2 inch's thick and made the rosettes the same way you do the cute fabric rosettes you put onto head bands.  If you are unsure of how to do that here is a quick tutorial.  (sorry I didn't take pictures while I was making them so I just grabbed a piece of ribbon to show you how to do this) Start with 1 1/2 inch thickness and make it as long as you can.

 Start twisting your material/tissue paper/ribbon :)  Whatever you are using.

 After you twisted a little bit roll up what you have twisted. Glue it with hot glue frequently. (I have a sudden desire to go get a manicure, sorry.)

Then continue to twist and roll and glue.  Twist, roll, glue.  Until you are happy with the size.  Then put some glue on the back of your rosette and stick the remaining paper (about 1 inch if you have more left trim it first) to the glue.  And you are done.

Dr. Suess Baby Shower {Advice Book}

So I made this little advice book for the shower for people to write in.  I thought it turned out cute.  I am by no means a computer printable expert of a paper crafter expert so there are flaws, but I was over all happy with it.  I just searched a bunch of Dr. Suess images until I found ones I was happy with. I left a space on the left side of all of them and I hole punched them, then glued them together then tied ribbon through the hole. So here it is.  I thought this was a perfect cover image.

 I opened it into paint so I could change it a little and I added this.

 Here is an example of one of the inside pages. I used text boxes to make the lines then edited the text boxes to make the "box" disappear.

I had a bunch of others but I didn't want to bore you with them all.  But over all I thought it turned out cute, for something that was a big learning project for me.
Thanks to my hubby for helping me figure out some of the editing things that I couldn't figure out on my own :)

Dr. Suess Prizes/Decor

Here is some more cuteness I have been working on for the Dr. Suess Baby shower I am doing later this week.
So I made these really cute blocks that will work great to set up and just be cute, but I am also going to use them as prizes for people who win the "games" we play at the baby shower.  I simple got some wood blocks and painted them white, then I mod podged cute paper on them then added the vinyl sayings.  Super easy and I already had the blocks and paint and the paper was on sale so really the whole project cost me $8.  I think that's a great deal.
So here they all are is a nice row.  I think they are cute.

 Now for some close ups.  This one did turn out a little "scratchy" because I wasn't generous enough with the mod podge.  But still cute.

 This one is my favorite.  I just LOVE the yellow!

 This one has my favorite quote on it. 

 And this one I did in cute purple and pink paper because the baby is a girl and I thought it was a good one to give to mom and baby to take home.

So that was a fun cute project.  Plus it was easy and inexpensive so I think it was a "win win win". Plus wouldn't you love to win one of those at a baby shower?
